Words are weighty. Seriously, they can shape the course of an entire life. Consider these real life examples of lives that were changed by a few simple words:

• A little boy whose dreams of being a writer were dashed by a teacher who scoffed, “That will never happen.”
• A young man whose aspirations were ignited by the encouragement of a co-worker who said, “You’re smart. You can go to college!”
• A poor child who believed he could be anything if he kept reading because his illiterate mom said so. He became a neurosurgeon.

Scripture tells us that “Life and death are in the power of the tongue.” Proverbs 18:21

Our tongues can be a megaphone that we use to cheer our kids on in their purpose and calling in life, or they can be a sword that cuts them down, that brings death to their destiny. We’ve got to speak life over our kids because the world will speak death to their God-given dreams. What we tell our kids sticks, moms and dads. The good and the bad. So let’s speak words filled with life!
