Let’s be honest—few topics feel as gut-wrenching, panic-inducing, or outright awkward for Christian parents as “the talk.” You know the one…
If you’re anything like me, your palms sweat a little just thinking about how to have honest, age-appropriate, biblically faithful conversations about sex, gender, and God’s design. But here’s the reality: our kids are being shaped—right now—by a world filled with loud, confusing, and deeply disconnected messages about sex and identity. If we don’t actively step into these conversations, someone else will.
More than ever, it’s vital that we become the primary voice in our children’s lives on these subjects. Our role as Christian parents is not just to shield our kids from the world’s lies, but to help them see, celebrate, and savor God’s good design—for their flourishing, protection, and ultimate joy. This isn’t just an “uncomfortable talk”—it’s one of the most crucial discipleship moments of our time.
That is the urgent, hope-filled invitation we unpack in the latest episode of Christian Parent/Crazy World.

🌟 Episode Takeaways: Courage & Clarity for the Birds and the Bees (and More)
Here’s what you’ll discover in this packed episode:
💬 Why This Isn’t Optional Anymore
If we don’t step into conversations about sex and identity early, intentionally, and often, our culture will fill in the blanks for our kids—often with destructive lies. The “Founder’s Effect” means the first person to speak on a topic usually becomes the “expert” in your child’s mind. Let that expert be YOU.
👶 When To Start, and How
Don’t wait until your child is in middle school (or has already heard it all on the playground/internet). Elizabeth recommends beginning simple, positive, ongoing conversations—brace yourself—as young as age four… always age-appropriate, always rooting your teaching in God’s good design, not merely “rules” or “don’ts.”
📖 Framing It All in God’s Goodness
Instead of avoiding, over-complicating, or shaming the topic, teach your kids that sexuality is a gift—given by a good God, for their protection and joy, within wise boundaries. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is clear: God creates us as male and female, in His image, for oneness in marriage and the blessing of children. All boundaries flow from His love.
✨ Practical Steps: What & How to Say It
😨 Overcoming Our Baggage
Many of us come from families or churches that shamed, ignored, or mishandled this topic—or from backgrounds where sex was trivialized. If this conversation is hard, pause and invite God to heal and renew your own understanding. Our kids deserve a parent who both honors God’s design and walks in freedom.
🌈 What “Steals” a Child’s Innocence? (Hint: Not the Truth)
Waiting too long, or letting the world shape first impressions, puts our children at risk. Protecting innocence is about giving them a positive, biblical framework—before they hear the world’s version.

💬 A Quote to Reflect On
“The ultimate goal is as they begin to understand what God’s design is, that they would taste and see that the Lord is good. And that through this understanding… they would compare that with what our fallen nature has done to God’s good gifts, and that they would run to Jesus and find everlasting life in Him.”

🙌 An Encouragement For You, Parent:
God gave THESE kids to you for a reason. Your story—including the hard parts—makes you the exact parent they need to walk through these topics in truth, love, and hope. You are not alone and you do not have to be perfect—just faithful and willing to start.
You are God’s field, God’s building, God’s fellow worker in your child’s life. Keep planting, keep watering, and trust God for the growth.
🌱 God is working all things—yes, ALL things—for your good and your child’s good, conforming you both more into the image of His Son. Take a breath. You’ve got this. He’s got you.
