There’s a question that many Christian parents never ask God. My husband and I didn’t ask God this question for the first two decades of our marriage, despite attending church weekly, tithing, going so small groups, and having daily devotionals. Honestly, I didn’t want to know the answer. I wanted to answer this question myself. That question is:
WHAT DOES GOD WANT MY FAMILY TO LOOK LIKE?
I know this isn’t a popular topic… but please don’t bail on me yet. Consider this: we often seek God about where we should work, live, and go to church, what school our kids should attend, and how to raise our children—but we don’t think to ask God how many kids we should have, adopt, or foster.
Why is that?
In the Episode 76 of CHRISTIAN PARENT/CRAZY WORLD, I explore this topic and then let you be to be a fly on the wall of my post-interview conversation with Kirsten Vossler, a mother of nine (soon to be ten). We discuss how the church has been subtly influenced by the world’s perspective on parenting and children.
We should seek God’s plan over our personal preference. If Jesus is to truly be Lord of our lives, that means He must be Lord of our families. That doesn’t mean we have to crank out as many babies as possible in our child-bearing years, but it does mean that we should seek His plan over our preference.
