As parents, our deepest desire is to protect our children, but there’s a threat that most of us never see coming. Sexual predators are experts at luring kids—often blending in as someone familiar, or reaching them through the screens we think are safe. They know how to groom, manipulate, and exploit in ways that bypass even the most watchful parent.
We imagine safeguarding our homes, schools, and neighborhoods, only to learn that the greatest threats often arrive quietly—in a text, a game, a message from someone who seems harmless. This isn’t just “out there”—it’s here, everywhere our kids are.
Some conversations need to be heard not just once, but again and again. That’s why we are revisiting this vital topic in a special “best of” episode of Christian Parent/Crazy World. We cannot afford to turn away from the reality of sexual exploitation and trafficking—our children need us to be aware, equipped, and ready.
It’s my privilege to welcome back Dr. Rondy Smith, founder and CEO of Rest Stop Ministries—the first long-term residential restoration program in Tennessee for female survivors of sex trafficking.
With years of experience walking alongside women through deep healing, Dr. Smith is both a leader in rescue and a passionate advocate for prevention. Her wisdom equips parents to recognize threats, open lines of communication, and bring hope to families. She is uniquely qualified to guide us in facing this difficult reality with courage and faith.
One of the most eye-opening moments in this episode is Rondy’s reading of a powerful letter from “V”—a young woman who was sexually exploited for the entirety of her teenage years. Shockingly, this abuse took place right under her parents’ roof, perpetrated by a distant family member posing as a peer online. V’s story is a stunning reminder that even in loving, watchful homes, predators can find ways to manipulate and isolate children. As parents, we must hear V’s story—her pain, her silence, and her eventual hope—to better understand the hidden dangers our kids face and equip ourselves to protect them.
Other vital takeaways:
🔍 It Can Happen Anywhere
Trafficking and exploitation aren’t distant threats—they are present in suburban neighborhoods, Christian schools, and even loving homes. Predators know how to access kids under the radar.
👀 Predators Are Familiar
Over 60% of victims are exploited by someone known to them—a friend, family member, or someone who gains trust.
💻 Cyber Exploitation: A Major Threat
With kids online for school, gaming, and social connection, predators have unprecedented access. COVID-era virtual learning only increased vulnerability.
🧠 Open Conversations Save Lives
Children are often too afraid or ashamed to confide, unless parents create a safe, judgment-free environment. Frequent, honest communication is essential.
🛑 Early Education Is Critical
Prevention starts young—kids need age-appropriate warnings and guidance starting in late elementary school.
🤲 God Is Greater—Restoration Is Possible
No story is too broken for resurrection. Through community, faith, and compassionate intervention, healing can take place.

Wherever our kids are, predators are there. We have to think like a guardian—and sometimes, that means thinking like a predator. They’re lurking online, gaming, social media, wherever our children are. We must be wise as serpents and gentle as doves.
— Dr. Rondy Smith
I know it’s overwhelming, but you are not alone. God gave you your children—and He will equip you with wisdom, strength, and grace for every challenge. Trust your intuition, build open lines of communication, and remember: our God is greater, stronger, and always brings hope and restoration.
Let’s be peacemakers, not peacekeepers. Engage the hard topics, pray big prayers, and protect our families—not by fear, but by faith and awareness.
