As Christian parents, we long to raise our children in safety, teaching them to shine God’s light in a world that too often feels shrouded in darkness. Yet, there are some evils so overwhelming—and so close to home—that it can feel easier to turn away, whispering the lie that there’s nothing we can do.
Human trafficking is one of the darkest crises of our time. It isn’t just a distant horror—it’s happening in our neighborhoods, our cities, and yes, even in our churches. As uncomfortable as it is, ignoring it is not an option. As followers of Christ, we are called to rescue, restore, and defend the vulnerable “as we love ourselves.”
But how do we even begin?
That’s the question we tackle in this week’s “best of” episode of Christian Parent/Crazy World
I am honored to bring back Dr. Rondy Smith—a woman whose journey inspires me deeply. Rondy is the founder and CEO of Rest Stop Ministries, Tennessee’s first long-term residential restoration program for female survivors of sex trafficking.
With over 37 years in corporate, academic, and ministry leadership (including a doctorate from Vanderbilt and years as a beloved Bible teacher), Rondy offers not just expertise, but unswerving compassion. She steps into the gap for women no one else would see—restoring lives with dignity, faith, and hope.
🔎 Sex Trafficking Is Everywhere
“It is in every ZIP code in the United States.” Yes, you read that right. Rondy sounds the alarm: this crisis isn’t just an “over there” problem but one that stalks American children and families across social and economic boundaries.
💔 The Faces Behind the Stats
Behind the staggering statistics—55 million enslaved, with the average age of entry into prostitution just thirteen—are real daughters, real sons. Many are trafficked by people they trust, sometimes even by their own families.
🌱 Restoration Is Possible—and Hard Won
Rest Stop Ministries walks with women for up to three years of deep healing, addressing every practical and spiritual need. The most beautiful miracle? Many find their way back to God, even after faith was weaponized against them (“To be able to help them redefine even who they think God is…” is the greatest privilege… Dr. Rondy Smith).
🦋 You Can Make a Difference—Right Where You Are
We are not powerless. Whether by supporting local ministries, volunteering, praying, or educating ourselves and our children, every act of engagement helps dismantle this evil.

If these stories weigh heavy on your heart, know this: God sees. He put you in your child’s life for a reason, equipping you to protect, nurture, and open their eyes to both danger and hope. You don’t have to solve it all—but you can be part of the solution. Start with prayer, let compassion move you, and look for the “something” you can do, however small it seems. If even one child is protected, if even one life finds healing, your compassion matters.
We’re in this together. Together, the body of Christ can shine in the darkest places and reclaim hope for the vulnerable.
