✨ What Story is Shaping Your Child’s Life?
We live in a world of competing stories. Culture tells our children that identity is something they create, worth is something to earn, and meaning is something to chase. In a swirl of confusion, fear, and self-invention, Christian parents are left asking:
“Is my child anchored in the story that truly matters? Do they even know they are part of God’s epic, eternal narrative?”
The stakes are sky-high—not just for what our kids believe, but for how they weather life’s storms. If faith is only moral lessons or rules, it will break down amid suffering and cultural pressure. But when our children grab hold of the big, beautiful, cohesive story of God’s relentless love, everything changes. Their identity settles, their hope takes root, and their purpose expands.
This was the heart of our discussion in the latest episode of Christian Parent/Crazy World.
I was thrilled to welcome back Randy and Rozanne Frazee—visionary leaders who have spent decades helping countless adults and children engage the Bible as a single, unified love story, not a pile of isolated tales!
Together, they co-authored Encountering God’s Love from Genesis to Revelation—a guide designed to help families live, breathe, and dialogue in the one true story, from kids to grandparents.
📚 From Disconnected Tales to One Grand Narrative
Many “know about Noah and the ark, David and Goliath, Daniel and the lions’ den,” but not the through-line that unites them. Randy shared his conviction: “If you’re in church, even a year, you should be able to walk from Genesis to Revelation—not as trivia, but as your story.”
🌎 Upper Story vs. Lower Story—Why It Matters
Randy & Rozanne explained the breakthrough idea: We all have a “lower story”—the messy everyday of parenting, work, disappointment. But there’s always an “upper story”—God’s eternal, redemptive plan, which re-frames even our pain. Joseph, Job, Stephen—their stories all point to this: “What you meant for evil, God meant for good.” (Gen. 50:20)
🗣 Real Talk: Parenting Through Mess & Heartache
I shared my own struggles—prayers unanswered, pain in my kids’ friendships, hard losses that seemed senseless. Randy opened his heart about losing his mother and seeing God’s purposes for his father’s salvation unfold in the aftermath. Sometimes, the “upper story” only becomes clear with time and surrender.
👨👩👧👦 For Parents of Prodigals: Don’t Give Up
The Frazees shared their own “prodigal” season with a daughter, and the painful hope required to wait, pray, and keep the door open. “Don’t give up on the relationship. The story isn’t over yet.”
📖 Tools For the Journey
Resources like the Frazee’s free resources can anchor whole families—kids, teens, and parents alike—in conversations that build lasting faith. When everyone is on the “same page,” deep, fruitful, and even healing dialogue can finally happen.
What story is shaping your child’s life right now?

“If you align your life to God’s upper story, he is writing a good story—even if, like Joseph, you are in a pit right now. Most likely, it’ll become good in your life. But at the very least, it will always be good for God’s story as a whole.”
~Randy Frazee
Parents, you don’t need to be a perfect Bible teacher. You don’t need all the answers. You simply need to be a parent walking with God, wrestling through your own pain and confusing seasons, and inviting your children to journey with you. Whether your lower story feels like a mess or a miracle, God is always working for the good—and He’s chosen you to unlock who He made your children to be.
Plant the seeds, nurture the roots, stay in relationship, and trust the author of the greatest story ever told.
✨ Let’s help our kids find their place in God’s story—together.
